US stock market today
The S&P 500, Nasdaq and Dow, the biggest US stocks and the day’s top movers, with US market hours shown in Indian time. Wall Street trades while India sleeps, and its close often sets the mood for the next morning on Dalal Street.
S&P 500, Nasdaq 100 and Dow: today, this month, this year
The S&P 500 covers 500 large US companies and is the benchmark most funds measure against. The Nasdaq 100 is heavy in technology, and the Dow tracks 30 blue chips. When the Nasdaq falls more than the S&P 500, the selling is in tech, which is the part of Wall Street that Indian IT shares tend to follow.
Index values are FOREX.com’s trackers of the S&P 500, Nasdaq 100 and Dow, which follow the official indices closely and also trade outside US market hours.
Which sectors moved: the S&P 500 heatmap
Each box is an S&P 500 company, sized by market value and coloured by today’s change. A handful of giants (Apple, Microsoft, Nvidia, Amazon, Alphabet) are so large that they can move the whole index on their own, which is easy to see here.
Top US gainers, losers and most active
The biggest percentage moves across US exchanges. Check “most active” as well: that is where the day’s money is going.
Indian companies listed in the US
Infosys, Wipro, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank and MakeMyTrip trade in New York as American Depositary Receipts. Their overnight move is an early hint of how the same shares may open in India.
An ADR can represent more than one underlying share, so compare percentage moves rather than prices.

Questions about this page
- What time does the US stock market open in India?
- The NYSE and Nasdaq trade from 9:30 am to 4:00 pm New York time. That is 7:00 pm to 1:30 am IST while US daylight saving time is in force (in 2026, until 1 November), and 8:00 pm to 2:30 am IST for the rest of the year. India does not change its clocks, so the shift comes from the US side.
- Why does the US market matter for Indian investors?
- Overnight moves on Wall Street often set the tone for the next morning in Mumbai, especially for IT companies that earn most of their revenue in the US. The dollar-rupee rate and US interest rates also affect how much foreign money flows into Indian shares.
- Can I invest in US stocks from India?
- Yes. Resident individuals can invest abroad under the RBI’s Liberalised Remittance Scheme, which allows up to $250,000 per financial year, through an Indian broker with a US partner or a foreign broker. Remittances above set thresholds attract tax collected at source, and gains are taxable in India, so check the current rules before investing.
- Are the S&P 500, Nasdaq and Dow figures here the official index values?
- The index lines on this page are FOREX.com’s index trackers, which follow the official S&P 500, Nasdaq 100 and Dow Jones values closely but can differ slightly, and trade outside US market hours. Individual US stock prices are delayed by about 15 minutes.
