Editorial Standards
This page sets out how the material on this site is produced and what you are entitled to expect of it. If we fall short of it, tell us — that is what it is for.
Sourcing
Every article lists the sources it draws on, by name and with a link, at the foot of the page. We prefer primary material — company filings, official figures, published policy documents, survey data, direct statements — over second-hand description of it. Where we rely on another outlet's reporting, we say which outlet.
Where sources disagree on a figure, we say so rather than quietly picking one. Where we could not corroborate something, we say that too, and we name it as single-sourced rather than letting it pass as established.
Contested claims
When an allegation is disputed, we attribute it to whoever made it, carry the response of whoever it is made against with comparable prominence, and distinguish between what has been alleged, what has been denied, and what has actually been established by a regulator, a court or a documented record.
We do not assert or imply wrongdoing in the absence of a finding. An article describing an allegation is not an article endorsing it. Where a person is accused of an offence that has not been tried, we say so on the page.
Numbers and analysis
Where we calculate something — a cost per kilometre, a percentage change, a revenue estimate — we show the inputs so you can substitute your own. Modelled or illustrative figures are labelled as such and never presented as reported data. Analyst commentary and interpretation are labelled and kept separate from reported fact.
Nothing on this site is financial, legal, medical or professional advice. Articles that touch on listed companies or markets carry an explicit notice to that effect.
Images
Photographs are either licensed for the use, or our own work. Wire and agency photographs carry their credit on the image. Charts and diagrams we produce ourselves are credited to Global News and cite the data behind them. We do not present an illustrative or stock image as though it were a photograph of the event described.
How articles are produced
Articles are researched and edited by Mohak Chutani. Where automated tools assist with research or drafting, a person reviews the result and is responsible for every claim that appears on the page. Responsibility for what is published rests with us, not with a tool.
Independence and funding
This site is supported by advertising served through Google AdSense. Advertisers have no sight of, or say in, what we publish, and no article is written, placed or amended in exchange for payment. We do not publish sponsored posts or paid placements disguised as editorial. If that ever changes, it will be labelled on the page itself.
Global News is an independent project, not owned by, funded by or affiliated with any company, party or organisation it writes about.
Conflicts of interest
If we write about something in which we have a financial or personal interest, we disclose it in the article. If you believe we have failed to, contact us.
Corrections
We publish corrections on the article itself, dated, rather than editing an error away. The full policy, and how to report a mistake, is on the corrections page.
Right of reply
If you are the subject of something we have published and believe it is inaccurate or unfair, write to us. We will consider it properly and, where we are wrong, correct it promptly and visibly.
